Jisan Forest Ski Resort

There are two solid reasons to visit Jisan Forest Ski Resort. First, it is only 40 minutes from the Gangnam area by car. Second, they provide the Sunkid conveyor lift for beginners and kids. Jisan Ski Resort will be a great choice if you go skiing with your kids.

However, if you are an advanced skier or snowboarder, the short slope length might slightly disappoint you. Nevertheless, the accessibility from Gangnam and the beginner-friendly conveyor lift are great advantages.

Phoenix Pyeongchang Ski Resort

Pyeongchang Phoenix Ski Resort MontBlanc Peak
[ Phoenix Pyeongchang Ski Resort MontBlanc Peak ]

Do you remember the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games? Six slopes of Phoenix Pyeongchang Ski Resort were used for the Pyeongchang Olympic freestyle ski and snowboard games.

Phoenix Pyeongchang is the ski resort I most visited because my brother has a vacation cottage near the resort. If you are an intermediate skier and snowboarder, Phoenix Pyeongchang could be your best choice in many ways.

There are 21 slopes, eight lifts, a gondola, a 2.4 km-long beginner course (Panorama), and an Extreme Park with an Olympic-standard halfpipe for snowboarders.

The resort is a leisure complex with golf courses, a waterpark (Blue Canyon), and a Snow Village (sled slope and snow playground for kids).

There are many other attractions in the Pyeongchang area, such as HerbnaraSky Ranch (Haneul Mokjang), Woljeongsa temple, etc., and you can get to the Gangneung beach in an hour.

Tip: Phoenix Pyeonchang provides a 2-hour free ski lesson for hotel and condominium gusts during the 2021/2022 season.

Eden Valley Ski Resort

Eden Valley Ski Resort, located in Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-so, officially opened in 2008. It is the only ski resort in Gyeongsan-do and the southernmost ski resort in Korea.

In 2018, the Saturn ski slope was turned into a luge track in Edenvalley Luge Track. Many people visit the resort to enjoy the 2.4km luge slope, which is the world’s longest.

Due to the warm weather in the south, the opening period is very short. I recommend you check the opening dates and hours before you go.

The Oak Valley Ski Resort is 3 minutes away from the Seo-Wonju IC of Yeongdong Expressway, and it takes about an hour to get to the resort from Gangnam station by car.

The resort has seven slopes: one beginner, four intermediate, and two advanced courses. The beginner slopes are gentle, making it a popular ski resort for beginners. Additionally, they are running a sled slope for kids next to the condominium and a smelt fishing experience.

If you are looking for a nearby attraction, I strongly recommend the Museum SAN. Designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, it became the most famous must-visit place in Wonju.

Winter Weather and Snow in Korea

Although all four seasons in Korea are delightful for different reasons for tourists, winter in Korea is something special. If you’re a person who loves winters and snow, then Korea should be on your list of places to visit in the cold period.

Seoul experiences snowfall in December, January, and February. If you plan your trip for the winter, try going in late November or December. That’s when the city is blessed with snowfalls and snowflake showers.

Seoul is one of those cities that can get extremely bone-chilling cold, with cold breezes blowing, a light ray of sunshine, and a cloudy sky. The water of the rivers also freezes when the temperature drops below the freezing point.

The cold season hits different areas of Korea with various lower temperatures from late November until early March. The temperature remains between -3 and -6 but can even drop down to -10 at times. Winters in Korea are windy and dry, but that shouldn’t stop you from having a good time. If you want to know more about the weather, temperature, and precipitation, read the Korea weather and temperature article.

Proper planning and ticket booking earlier in the year are essential for Visiting Seoul just in time to see it transformed into a wonderful winter land. Discover more interesting things to do in Seoul during winter.

    Hello.
Thank you for the useful information. It helps me a lot to make a plan for my first travel to South Korea.
Where is the nearest ski resort from Pyeongchang station?
    Is it close?

    Thanks

  2. Hi Pimnicha,

Thanks and sounds great that we can help you! 🙂
The nearest ski resort from the Pyeongchang station and bus terminal is Pyeongchang Phoenix.
It takes 15 minutes to get to the resort from the station by car (taxi). The fare might be around 17,000 KRW.
Have a great time in Pyeongchang!

    Cheers,
    Dy & Jay
